Seven-year record drought begins

1956

San Pedro, San Antonio and Comal springs all cease to flow. The aquifer reaches record low of 612.51 feet on August 17.

1971

Construction begins on the first of four recharge dams

1977

Designated the first sole-source aquifer by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
