Texas Legislature enacts the Underground Water Conservation Districts Act to protect groundwater.

1959

Edwards Underground Water District (EUWD) is created by the Texas Legislature to conserve, protect, and preserve the Edwards Aquifer.

1970

First rules regulating development over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone, including restricted zones and rules on waste disposal.

1973

Federal Endangered Species Act becomes law.
