Ramon Chapa, Jr.

Ramon Chapa, Jr. is a lifelong resident of New Braunfels and represents Edwards Aquifer Authority District 8, which covers the central urban portion of Comal County. Mr. Chapa was appointed to the board of directors in July 2004 to fill an unexpired term. He was then elected to a full term in November 2004, which expires in December 2008, and currently serves as a member of the board’s Legislative Committee.
Mr. Chapa is a graduate of San Antonio College and the University of Maryland where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. He is a U.S. Army Veteran, having served from 1980 to1986. Mr. Chapa also was the youngest person elected to the New Braunfels City Council and served from 1986 to 1992, including six years as Mayor Pro Tem.

Mr. Chapa is a member of numerous civic organizations and has been honored for his community service by San Antonio Mayors Henry Cisneros and Ed Garza, the Texas House of Representatives twice, the Martin Luther King Commission of Bexar County and the United Way of San Antonio. In 2002, Texas Gov. Rick Perry honored him for his service to the "People of the Lone Star State,” and in 2005, he was awarded the Time Warner Hometown Hero award for New Braunfels. In addition, Mr. Chapa is the only Comal County resident to receive the prestigious Alamo Area Council of Governments Regional Citizen of the Year Award.
