Susan K. Hughes
Susan Hughes is a resident of San Antonio and represents District 6 covering eastern and southern portions of Bexar County. Her current term expires December 1, 2008.
Hughes serves as chair of the Research & Technology Committee and the Habitat Conservation Plan Work Group and is a member of the Aquifer Management Planning and Executive committees.
Hughes is the founder and president of Wordwright Associates, a marketing and business communications firm in San Antonio. She is a facilitator and mediator, focusing on public policy issues.She was formerly on the boards of the National Audubon Society, the Board of Audubon Texas and the Bexar Audubon Society.
Hughes is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama. She received a master’s degree in library science from The University of Texas at Austin. She had a 15-year career establishing and managing corporate and other special libraries and information centers before moving into marketing and corporate communications.
Hughes served eight years as the environmental representative on the South Central Texas Regional (Region L) Water Planning Group. She has been involved in many environmental organizations and projects, including the Bexar Audubon Society’s South Texas Farm & Range Forum, the San Antonio Environmental Network, and Natural Initiatives, the group that founded the Master Naturalist program. She is board secretary of Save the Laja, Inc., a Texas non-profit fostering habitat and watershedprotection in the Texas - Central Mexico corridor. She is a member of the Texas Women’s Forum. Through her company, Bats about Beats, she designs, crafts, and sells custom jewelry of semi-precious beads and cabochons, silver and precious metal clay.
