Primers Fissure Tracer Test

Approximately two pounds of uranine dye was injected into Primers Fissure, located approximately 2 miles south of San Marcos, Texas. The dye injection occurred within 600 feet of a group of low volume pumping wells.  However, the dye was not detected in the wells but flowed to North Ezells Cave, then on to artesian wells located at Texas State University, the City of San Marcos Spring Lake pumping station, and the springs located on the southwestern side of Spring Lake. Groundwater velocities were estimated to be approximately 2,000 feet per day between Primers Fissure and Ezells Cave. The dye also crossed at least one mapped fault.
