Cretaceous Edwards Limestone

The Edwards Aquifer is contained within the Cretaceous age Edwards Group limestone (Edwards Limestone) and associated units. Rocks (formations) located above and below the Edwards are relatively impervious and subsequently act as upper and lower caps, preventing water from escaping the Edwards Aquifer in the subsurface.
