Municipal Water Use The largest entities that pump water from the aquifer are municipal suppliers. Water is pumped from the aquifer and placed in elevated storage tanks to allow the use of gravity for water distribution. For the 10-year period of record (1994-2003), pumping for municipal purposes accounted for 61.6 % of groundwater pumped from the Edwards Aquifer.
