Edwards Aquifer Drainage Area The area north and west of the aquifer is called the Edwards Plateau, and is bounded by the Texas Hill Country along its southern and eastern edge. This area is also called the contributing zone or drainage area in which water flows to the south and east across the recharge zone of the Edwards Aquifer. This area is also where the headwaters for numerous rivers in the region begin, including the Nueces, Frio, Blanco, Medina, and Guadalupe rivers. This is a photo of the drainage area and shows the typical morphology topography of the Texas Hill Country.
